Being Involved In The Planning Process
According to an article from, ACB Consulting Services it states that, “Green Space Is an Urban Necessity. In the rush to build homes for a rapidly-growing urban population, we often neglect the need for green space.”1
Without actually planning for green spaces, people who live in those spaces are left without several elements needed for living a healthy and economically beneficial life.
Without deliberate planning for green space, as the article continues, it inhibits; “A Place to Relax and Unwind, A Place for Kids and Pets to Play, A Place for Mental Health and Physical Wellbeing, A Place for Adults to Exercise, Improved Community Development and Designing Potentialities…”1
By inhibiting those elements of planning for green spaces, people are in an actual “concrete jungle.” The people living in those areas are forced to survive in the present and not thrive with a look toward the future.
The ACB article goes on to state that having urban green spaces, “…improve the sustainability of a city, by reducing the environmental impact of buildings and transportation systems on the environment. And great green spaces can also draw in new business, in the form of tourism…”1
One way to plan for more green space is by voting for and petitioning governmental representatives to only approve urban plans that intentionally include green spaces.
This will require that resources be made available to educate both the people who will live in those urban areas and the governmental officials. They will need to know and understand the health, as well as the economic effects of a lack of green spaces.
Those living in the areas need to be educated on how the lack of green spaces is currently affecting their health and then how it’s affecting their economic wellbeing. They also need to know that there is something that can be done about it. In short they need to know that there is hope for the present and the future.
Those in charge of building up cities and developers, generally need monetary incentives to determine what they will focus on. The governmental officials and developers need to primarily be educated on the economic benefits and then the health benefits of urban projects that include green spaces.
